We are privileged to work with many associates who have firsthand clinical experience. These talented individuals work together with our technology teams and clients to ensure we’re delivering solutions that work in the real world – not just the testing lab.

In this series, we spotlight individuals who now apply their skills and wealth of knowledge to meet and exceed the needs of our clients.

Jenny Gutierrez, RN – Business Systems Analyst

  1. Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jenny Gutierrez and I am a native of Halstead, Kansas. (straight from the heartland y’all!) I am a wife to my husband and best friend, and a mama of three amazing and energetic kiddos that keep me on my toes! I earned my RN in nursing from Southwest Baptist University in 2010 and have fallen in love with nursing and being a caregiver ever since. I have a passion for people and a strong commitment to finding ways to make positive impacts on patient outcomes and the overall patient care experience.

  1. Give us some highlights of your career in healthcare.

I started my career working overnights at a Mercy Hospital transitional care unit. Working in this position gave me the opportunity to gain valuable experience while assisting a wide array of patients and their unique corresponding needs. I then made the transition to Oxford Home Health to work as a field case manager for two years. Using the experience, I gained up to that point and still with Oxford, I then transitioned into a clinical trainer role. I had the opportunity to educate new clinicians and prepare them for success by acclimating them to the Home Health environment. Helping clinicians successfully navigate the emerging trend of employing technology in the form of a comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) in conjunction with the goal of improving patient care and safety was my greatest focus. It afforded me the opportunity to work directly with and provide feedback to our EHR vendor (Netsmart!), which helped drive value added enhancements. This impacted thousands of users and patients across the care continuum.

  1. Why did you make the change from clinical work to working at Netsmart?

Working in the field with patients is extremely rewarding because you can see your efforts making a direct difference in people’s lives. From witnessing a patient smile as you listen to their stories to a hearing family’s appreciation for taking care of their loved one, there are few things more rewarding than the feeling of making a difference for someone in need.

Working directly with patients has helped me develop a strong perspective in context with the digital age and how emerging electronic toolsets (when done right) can vastly improve patient outcomes. They have the power to deliver valuable information that can impact a patient’s situational awareness at the point of care. Armed with my experience working directly with patients, passion for making a difference and understanding of the positive potential of technology, making the decision to transition from a clinician, to a clinical trainer and eventually to business systems analyst at Netsmart was a no brainer!

  1. What makes you passionate about serving the clients/organizations who use Netsmart’s services?

The clients who use our Homecare EHR have the same mission I fell in love with as a clinician: delivering patient care in the most clinically effective and efficient way while preserving the patient care experience. Working as part of the clinical team at Netsmart, I have the ability to drive changes that help our clients deliver world-class patient care. By applying my solid understanding of what works in the field, I also help increase staff satisfaction and retention rates. Making a positive impact for our clients means making a positive impact for their patients; the two are inextricably linked. It gives me an enormous sense of pride to see us doing both!

  1. What does your perfect weekend look like?

I have a big family who loves to spend time together. From canoeing and camping, to shopping, birthday celebrations, baseball games, BBQs, fishing, shooting and other general shenanigans, we love to do it all! But a perfect weekend for me is one spent at home, eating good food, playing board games and topping it off with a late movie! (ok, and maybe fit a wine festival in there too!)
